In Praise of Recorders!

What other instrument is portable, easy to start learning on, fosters a socially beneficial experience, and helps the brain handle maths and fine motor skills?!To name but a few of it’s benefits. It can be a stepping stone to learning a different instrument or a different and maybe larger recorder.

There are many professional recorder players that are amazing to listen to and have gained National and International recognition. The recorder ranges from the tiny Sopranino which is about as long as a pencil, to the Contra Bass which is about as tall as an adult.

If this instrument can offer a child benefits, it certainly offers the same to adults. Playing in a group is a wonderful social experience. It keeps fingers and minds active, and research suggests that musicians are less likely to develop cognitive impairment or dementia.

There is no downside to this!
